"Atitlan... with the embellishment of several immense volcanoes,
is really too much of a good thing" commented Aldous Huxley
in 1934. Whether viewed from the expatriate mecca of Panajachel
or from the more indigenous Santiago Atitlan, this lake
and its surrounding volcanoes is without question, one of the
most astonishingly beautiful sites in Guatemala.
We leave early in the morning from Quetzaltenango and go directly
to a women´s weaving cooperative in a remote community outside
of Sololá. Here students will hear the history of the cooperative
and have the chance to buy their products. Then on Sunday, students
will go to the rocks of San Marcos La Laguna for swimming and
sun.
