Are you interested in a Study Abroad Spanish Immersion Program for Teens in Guatemala? Casa Xelajú provides an educational experience unlike any other in Guatemala, where young students can learn Spanish and immerse themselves in the country’s culture.
Our teen immersion program includes Spanish lessons tailored to each student’s needs and, at the same time, engages them in real-life cultural activities that help them enhance their Spanish fluency in a natural way. The city of Quetzaltenango (Xela), located in Guatemala, allows our students to be completely immersed in the Spanish language. Students practice their Spanish language skills daily through interactions with locals and by taking advantage of guided experiences.
This program is perfect for teens who want to study abroad, build confidence in their Spanish communication skills, and experience another culture outside the classroom.
The intensive program caters to the special needs of high and middle school students who are taking regular Spanish classes, IB, AP and CIS in their high schools. Besides the instruction, students will be doing volunteer work in small communities, and traveling with educational purposes in beautiful places, villages and cities in the country.
High School students are able to visit villages, cities, cultural centers, climb volcanoes, hike in the mountains, and learn how to dance salsa, merengue, and cumbia.
Looking for an unforgettable summer experience that combines education, travel, and cultural immersion? Casa Xelajú’s Summer Spanish Program for Teens is the longest-running and most trusted Spanish immersion experience for high school students in Guatemala.
Our program is fully accredited by the Secretary of Education of Guatemala and specifically designed for high school students interested in Spanish language learning, cultural exploration, and community engagement. Set in the vibrant city of Quetzaltenango (Xela), students gain exposure to local indigenous cultures, explore Guatemala’s natural beauty, and develop real-world Spanish skills in a safe, structured environment.
All teachers in this division have a degree in secondary education and extensive experience teaching Spanish as a second language using the top-down methodology and providing an atmosphere where the spirit of the city and surrounding villages becomes the classroom for the students.
The total cost for a 3-week program is approximately $1,800 USD per student. This includes:

This trip is different from many packaged trips you may have taken, or may have heard about. Quetzaltenango is not a tourist town. Students live with families, so you are not checking on them every night, and you are not in a class with them.
You and the students will walk a lot, at a high altitude. Everybody – including you – will be in class for five hours a day. You will interact with the people in town. You will learn a lot about the troubles in Guatemala, especially in western Guatemala.
Tour to Quetzaltenango’s historic sites done the first day.
