On December 12, 2007, world famous socio-linguist Dr. Stephen Krashen presented a lecture called “Effective Second Language Acquisition” to an audience in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. La Pedrera Celebrates 15 Year Anniversary

This summer Casa Xelaju is proud to announce the inauguration of our second floor computer lab addition to our Proyecto La Pedrera building. With a generous donation given by Wayne Hess, the project now has a working computer lab with internet access and printer. Most importantly, the children of La Pedrera now have access to an electronic library which will help them to further their academic studies outside of the classroom. Read more

New Monitors in CX Computer Lab

This summer, Casa Xelaju has worked to improve the quality of our computer lab to better serve our students. We are proud to now offer our students access to 12 new flat screen monitors in our computer lab. Read more

Specialized Spanish Test Prep Classes

Casa Xelajú is now offering intensive Spanish test preparation courses for teachers needing to pass state-wide certification examinations in the United States. These courses can be taken either here at our school in Guatemala as a Spanish immersion experience or as classes online or over the phone. Read more

Coffee With Flavor and Aroma

Casa Xelajú is proud and happy to announce that the quality of coffee our students drink has improved dramatically as a result of the introduction of the new commercial coffee-maker equipment. Now, our students
can enjoy a cup of coffee with the same taste and quality of the best coffee shops in the world, but with the advantage that our coffee is free of charge to our students. Read more

Documentary About the Women of Casa Xelajú

Casa Xelajú Former student of Casa Xelajú Tess Lane filmed interviews of 20 women whom she met through the school. The women range in age and life experiences and is not only meant to give an international voice to these women, but also as a tool for practicing Spanish. Proyecto La Pedrera News

Casa Xelaju is proud to announce the opening of the Wayne Hess Electronic Library for La Pedrera Community on June 27 in a special ceremony. The construction of this Electronic Public Library is possible thanks to the solidarity work of Wayne Hess, a former CX student from Beaverton, OR. Read more

Spanish Online

For the past 19 years Casa Xelajú de Español has been teaching Spanish as a second language in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. In the span of almost two decades we have taught over 14,000 students from all around the world, using only the highest of academic standards in foreign language acquisition. On top of that we are one of the few Spanish Language Institutions in Guatemala that is fully accredited by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education. Read more

Wireless Internet

In the Summer of 2006 we began to install wireless Internet in Casa Xelajú. We have three networks running within the building: one in the office, one on the third floor and one grand antenna on top of the Mirador. Not only is there wireless Internet connection in the entire building, but host families living close to Casa Xelajú will have access to our networks as well. Read more

El Mirador (Lookout)

At the beginning of August 2006 we finished the
construction of our new Mirador. Located just above
the fourth floor of the school, students can take
advantage of this area of relaxation to study, to talk to
friends, or simply appreciate the buena vista. It is a
covered area, thus allowing one to enjoy the Mirador
come rain or shine.
